OLLY MEDLICOTT

"...what a prospect he might be for any West End producer with a bit of foresight." Essex County Standard

Olly Medlicott studied Music at Cambridge University and went on to complete a PhD at Bristol University. He was Deputy Musical Director of the London Gay Men's Chorus for a number of years, before entering the classroom as a secondary school music teacher. As a composer and arranger, he has had his work performed at the Barbican, Cadogan Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank.

In 2017 he ventured into the world of musical theatre writing with Messy. He subsequently completed the Early Career Training Programme at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester, taking the opportunity to develop some new material which was then incorporated into his second musical, Rockstar. This received its first performance in March 2019, and in its review the Essex County Standard said "...its potential is ridiculously exciting... what a prospect he might be for any West End producer with a bit of foresight."

In 2023 Rockstar was produced in a shorter, festival-friendly format at the Brighton Fringe Festival, and then transferred to the King's Head Theatre, London, for a run as part of their MT Pride Lab season.

Olly is currently working on a production of his newest musical, Liberty Hall, a comedy set in in a 1920s English stately home with an original jazz score, which will be performed at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester, in February 2025.
